Part 1:
Materials

How is the sequin made?
Phunky Fox sequin creations are made with sequin fabric. The fabric comes with the sequins sewn onto the mesh. Then our designers cut and sew the fabric into our Phunky fox shop patterns, then are sewn on sewing machines. Before the pieces are sewn by the machines...the sequins are removed along the line of where the machine is going to sew. Each sequin is removed one by one, to ensure the rest of the fabric is not damaged. The sequin must be removed where the piece is going to be sewed, because the sequins can get caught in the sewing machine, they can be in the way of the needle and they can puncture the sequin, and the thread can get stuck in the sequins and not hold the piece together. It can damage the fabric, but also it can damage the materials: the sequin can snap the sewing machine needles right in half, requiring rethreading the machine, and purchasing new needles. A time and cost effecting mistake. There are many things that can go wrong if the fabric isn't perfectly prepared to be sewed. Some pieces, including clothing with patches, or freestyle sequin designs (like the sequin Fishman Donuts) are done by hand. Each single sequin is set in place and threaded one by one. Both processes are very difficult and time consuming, but anything is worth that one of a kind shine!
Where does the sequin come from?
Phunky Fox Sequin is purchased from local businesses. From Fabric Row in Philadelphia...to the Fashion District in NYC...all of our fabric is coming directly from a local brick and mortar fabric shop. When we first started out: we got fabric from easily accessible sources....that are the dominating corporations such as Joann's Fabric. As the business grew, as did our knowledge of capitalism, corporations, and local businesses we completely reevaluated all of sources.
We no longer shop at the big fabric corporations. We shop at local fabric stores in person, and small fabric stores online on their sites, and on etsy.
Have a suggestion or recommendation for us? Let us know! We want to support as many people as possible.
How is product cost determined?
Everything depends on cost of materials used, labor, and time.
The cost of our products varies, but it ultimately comes down to sequin style and size. The bigger the sequins, the more expensive the fabric is.
It has always been our mission to make it easier to find, purchase, and wear the most affordable and most sparkly clothing. We offer different tiers of products at different price points, and some super Phunky pieces with no sequin at all! We have been exploring alternatives with new styles such as fabric based jackets with a pop of sequin on the trim or sleeves.
Price should not be what holds back anyone from reflecting their shine. Sadly, the sequin fabric is simply the most expensive around, especially the large sequins or the sequin designs like the flowers. Despite that, we are always searching to find the lowest cost so we can lower our price point to customers. We want to see you shine! But remember, some things are just luxury. We will always be actively working to make our pieces as cost efficient as possible.

Part 2: Product Care

How is the sequin cleaned and cared for?
Clothing made of sequin sewn onto mesh fabric is the most fragile fabric that exists. So why do we wear it to concerts, places we move our bodies most, and where we are bound to destroy it? Because that is the price we pay to be show stopping fabulous. Wearing this sequin gives you a power you dont get from wearing just anything. The sequin reflects all the light and energy around you, so a place like a concert with intense lights is the best place to see the sequin shine the brightest.
Advice: be careful with your sequin. It is delicate.
However, they can withstand a lot. I have worn the same pieces many times in intense environments and have found that they can withstand many events and uphold multiple wears. But like all clothing, they get broken, stained, worn, and need to be replaced.
Wear with caution. They are sturdy and last, but through intense movement, sequins will fall off. That is the price paid to sparkle! But the clothing itself stays sturdy. Even when you’ve worn the jacket a lot and lost a sequin, you really can’t tell due to how many sequins are on the piece as a whole.
Cleaning the sequin:
NEVER put your sequin in the washing machine. The machine is too powerful and will destroy the garment leaving sequins all over your washer.
We suggest two methods:
-
The Classic Hand Wash:
Gently soak and wash with soap or detergent. Hot or cold water whatever you prefer.
-
The Wipe Down Method
This is geared toward pieces with very large sequins. Since it is mostly the plastic-y sequin material, not cloth, I have used wet wipes/ lysol wipes, and just wiped them down and disinfected them.
All of this is new. People have not used these fabrics in this way. Sequin fabric is used so minimally in our society, it is a new style to wear full sequin head to toe! We are all learning from each other, and learning with time.

Part 3: Repair
Can my sequin products be repaired?
We will always do anything we can to repair your phunky fox shop products.
However: It all depends on which product it is, and how it is damaged.
Some of our products, our incredibly fragile. Once you wear a large sequin jacket; various times, and to intense places (for example you’ve worn it to many concerts over time) eventually those sequin are going to wear and tear…and since we purchase the fabric like that we cannot really repair it if it is just experiencing normal and expected wear and tear.
However, if it is something else, for example: if any of the added details are coming off ( a patch is falling off) that we will absolutely repair for you.
If some part of the piece is torn or stained, we will see what we can do to fix it..if we can we will…if we cant…we will see (if anything) what we can do.
